Diatomaceous Earth (DE) is not an earth. It is the fossilized remains of microscopic shells created by one celled plants called DIATOMS. Not all deposits of Diatomaceous Earth diatoms present in those deposits are the same. The Diatomaceous Earth I obtain is Perma-Guard's FOSSIL SHELL FLOUR® as it is a very pure form of Diatomaceous Earth used as an anti-caking food additive.
Out of 600 deposits in the US only 4 are considered "Food Grade" by the FDA standards. Other food grade deposits may contain higher amounts of sediment and clay that make them less effective. Depending upon how the deposits were formed, clay particles may be present in sufficient quantities to clog the pores of the fossilized shells. If this is the case, the effectiveness of the Diatomaceous Earth is severely reduced. We have analysis of many other "Food Grade" deposits and are satisfied that we still obtain the Diatomaceous Earth for our products from the purest fresh water source.Fossil Shell Flour ® consists of 89% (and often more) Silicon Dioxide plus numerous trace minerals. Fossil Shell Flour® is almost pure white when dry and appears light tan when wet. Other diatomaceous earth deposits often contains an excess of a particular mineral such as iron or a high percentage of clay giving it a darker color or a reddish tint.
Note: The type of diatomaceous earth used in swimming pool and other, filtration systems is crystalline silica that has been heated to make it crystalline. Crystalline silica is extremely dangerous when inhaled or ingested. Perma-Guard Diatomaceous Earth contains less than one half of 1% of crystalline silica and is considered GRAS (generally regarded as safe).
Ultra-pure, super-fine food grade diatomaceous earth. Supplies silica for bones, organs and connective tissue. Cleanses gut to remove toxins and promote regularity and is pure and untreated
